As your child\u2019s first teacher, you play an important role in helping them take their learning deeper. Encourage your child to prioritise reflection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We want students to think about their thinking.&nbsp; An IB education is not just about memorizing facts and skills in isolation.&nbsp; We say that as IB educators, our job is to help students <strong><em>learn how to learn<\/em><\/strong><strong>.&nbsp; <\/strong>Memorizing facts will only get you so far, but learning how to use your curiosity about the world around you to ask questions and investigate to find answers is a skill that sets students up for a lifetime of success. Thinking skills include both critical and creative thinking. Thinkers use both of these skill sets to analyze information, make decisions, and solve problems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, how can parents help to develop students who are <strong>thinkers<\/strong> at home?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Encourage your child to try to think of solutions to problems independently.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Let them try to solve problems first and then reflect with them on how their solution did or didn\u2019t work.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pose different real-life problems and questions to your child:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u201cI\u2019m not sure how to arrange the glasses so they can all fit in the cupboard.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u201cI wonder how much the groceries in the cart will cost\u2026 how can we make an estimate?\u201d&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ask your children questions when they are working on a problem:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>&#8220;Do you have any ideas about how we might begin?&#8221;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>&#8220;How can we do this differently?&#8221;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>&#8220;I had never thought of that.
