INTEGRATING SDGs IN OUR CURRICULUM
SDG 15 & 17
MYP 1A students are working on introducing plants to their classrooms after exploring the oxygen cycle and discovering that it is not balanced in their classrooms. They went on to research on the benefits of indoor plants and based on their findings, they carried out experiments to investigate how the location of plants in classrooms can affect their growth. The picture below shows them setting up their experiments.
PROTEST POETRY IN MYP 5
MYP 5 Students explored how poetry can be used as a tool to challenge the status quo in societies. They finished the unit by creating their voice of change board where they shared protest poems that tackle different SDGs.
PARENT MEETINGS AFTER 3-WAY CONFERENCE
After the 3-Way conference, we organised one-on-one meetings for parents and teachers based on requests made in the survey that parents filled out after the conference. Some parents have already started attending these meetings; therefore, other parents should exercise patience if they have not yet been called for a meeting with teachers. However, for parents who missed the 3-Way conference altogether, we will schedule either early morning meetings or after-school meetings with the homeroom teachers so that their wards can share their learning journeys with them.
MYP 1-3 READING CLUB
The MAP test we conducted shows that about 15% of the total students from MYP 1-3 that took the English Reading test have low reading scores. The scores are presented in the form of Lexile scores. The Lexile framework is a scientific approach that measures how complex texts are in a reading material and a student’s reading ability. The challenge here is that if a student’s reading ability is low, other subjects like Integrated humanities, Integrated Sciences and even Mathematics will be affected as they largely use this skill.
Therefore, we are currently working on a reading plan for these students to improve their reading. The goal is to move them away from their current reading levels to a higher one before the next MAP test. Parents of students flagged for the reading club will be informed.
END OF SEMESTER SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENTS
MYP 1-4 Examinations
MYP 1- 4 students will have their final summative assessments for the semester between Nov 20th and the 30th. All students must continue to attend school after the assessments because learning continues in classrooms. For their assessments, they need to bring their laptops and chargers to school everyday.
MYP5 Examinations
MYP 5 students will begin their end-of-semester examinations on the 20th of November and all the topics they need to focus on for this examination have been shared with them.
They must come along with their wired headphones, transparent water bottles and I.D cards. They are allowed to wear any of their uniforms for the examinations.
Students can also be picked up immediately after the examinations but parents must inform me and Mm Leticia via email or call to the front desk.
Attached here, is the examination schedule.
