IB MYP HIGHLIGHTS (NOV/DEC 22)

The Just Concluded 3-Way Conference & Students’ Action Plans

This is to appreciate all parents that were able to make it to our student-led 3-Way conference and it is great to know that everyone agreed that our student-led methods are more effective than the teacher-led ones. Parents who did not attend the conference should expect an invitation from the school soon. Also, students have updated their 3-Way conference presentations to include action plans. Therefore, It will be great if parents can ask them about this in order to give them the support they need.

Attendance

Students are currently taking their second units in most subjects therefore, we request parents avoid situations that may prevent students from attending lessons throughout this period. If missing lessons is inevitable, parents are requested to send an attendance excusal note immediately through ManageBac.

MYP 5- Preparing for Examinations

MYP 5 students are taking skills development lessons during office hours with the MYP coordinator on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. This is to prepare them physically, mentally and academically to write their e-assessments in May 2023. An example of their typing test is below.

MYP 5 students will begin their premock examination on the 23rd of November and they are required to come to school with their own earpieces. Please note that AirPods are not allowed in the examinations.

This is the MYP5 examination timetable

MYP 4- Independent Learning

MYP 4 students are currently being guided to learn independently using Education Perfect. Brain-based research proves that people learn better when their new learning is connected or linked to prior learning. However, our MYP4 students must be able to recall prior learning and avoid misconceptions and one way to achieve this is to go back to the topics they learnt in the previous years and relearn them. Below is a screenshot of what Education perfect looks like. Any folder that is not tagged, ‘official’ is created by Al-Rayan teachers.

RAZZMATAZZ

Students from MYP 1 to 4 will show their learning in the arts through a performance on 16th of November titled, ‘RAZZMATAZZ’. This performance is a combination of short plays, music performances and art exhibitions from students taking visual art, music and drama classes. Follow our social media to see these performances.
