PRIMARY HIGHLIGHTS (APR 23)

Welcome to our April  Newsletter!

Let us Talk IB!

An IB education develops lifelong learners. As your child’s first teacher, you play an important role in helping them take their learning deeper. Encourage your child to prioritise reflection.

We want students to think about their thinking.  An IB education is not just about memorizing facts and skills in isolation.  We say that as IB educators, our job is to help students learn how to learnMemorizing facts will only get you so far, but learning how to use your curiosity about the world around you to ask questions and investigate to find answers is a skill that sets students up for a lifetime of success. How can you prioritize reflection at home?  Ask them reflection questions

IB PYP Approaches to Learning: 5 Skills

Profile of the Month– Thinker

Each month, we choose a different attribute to focus on for the month.

April is all about being Thinkers

This week, we are exploring the trait of a thinker. Thinking skills include both critical and creative thinking. Thinkers use both of these skill sets to analyze information, make decisions, and solve problems.

So, how can parents help to develop students who are thinkers at home?

  1. Encourage your child to try to think of solutions to problems independently.
  2. Let them try to solve problems first and then reflect with them on how their solution did or didn’t work.
  3. Pose different real-life problems and questions to your child:
    • “I’m not sure how to arrange the glasses so they can all fit in the cupboard.”
    • “I wonder how much the groceries in the cart will cost… how can we make an estimate?”
  4. Ask your children questions when they are working on a problem:
    • “Do you have any ideas about how we might begin?”
    • “How can we do this differently?”
    • “I had never thought of that. Tell me more about it.”
    • “What other ways can we show that?”
    • “Why do you think that?”
    • “How did you figure that out?”
