University and Career Counselling Department (Nov/Dec 23)

Dear parents

Kindly be reminded of our open-door policy; and be advised to always feel free to walk in and ask questions or clarify your concerns with the Career Department. We look forward to continued cooperation with all in providing the best of services to our students.

We have held about four major University Fairs with esteemed universities across the UK, USA, Canada and other European countries to engage with students from year 9 to 13. Some of these schools included but not limited to: University of Toronto, University of British Culombia, Wilfrid Laurier University, Concordia University, Ontario Tech, University of Nottingham, New York University, Louisiana State University, University of Warwick, University of Sussex and over 40 additional institutions visiting our campus.

These visits opened the eyes of our students about the admission processes, both academic and co-curricular admission requirements and scholarship prospects.

The DP and CP students are being taken through College Application documentation and preparations. Google Classrooms have been set and resources provided to complete college application tasks such Personal Statement Writing, CV, College Essays and University Selections.

Currently, our Year 13 DP and CP students have begun their University Applications. We are closely monitoring and guiding students on all application portals. It is a crucial time as we work tirelessly with students to meet various deadlines to our various universities of interest. We submitted a few applications on the November 1st deadlines, and worked towards a couple more submissions on November 15th and beyond. Few offers have been received and look forward to a lot more by December. Parents are to look forward to regular updates through Managebac in the coming weeks.

We are pleased to share that our IBCP students now have an option to pursue their tertiary education in Lancaster University Ghana. Confirmation e-mail to this news was shared by the Provost of the University.

Please find below the Lancaster minimum entry criteria for the IBCP:

For Law and Computer Science programmes we need the equivalent of ABB at ‘A’ Levels which Lancaster has mapped to

  1. 3 HL subjects at at least 6.6 or
  2. 2 HL subjects at at least 6.6 plus Merit (BTEC)
  3. 2 HL subjects at 6.5 plus Distinction (BTEC)

For all other programmes we need the equivalent of a minimum of CCC at ‘A’ Levels which Lancaster has mapped to

  1. 3 HL subjects at at least 5.5 or
  2. 2 HL subjects at at least 5.5 plus Merit (BTEC).

The Career office has received proposals for a number of Summer School programs across different countries. We plan to schedule a session between the program providers and parents/students in the first week of December for elaborated presentations to keep our parents informed about the available summer program options towards our summer break.
